    About your retreat hosts

Marty believes that working with a therapist can be a life changing process that can benefit anyone who devotes a little time and energy to it. He welcomes the opportunity to work with you and focuses on treating compassion fatigue, trauma, burnout, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. He works with people of all ages, faiths, beliefs and backgrounds in a nonjudgmental way. Marty specializes in EMDR and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Marty has worked much of his life helping and encouraging others. For 10 years he served as a pastor of care and counseling at Cornerstone Church in San Francisco, and for 5 years as a chaplain to the international crew for Mercy Ships in West Africa.

More recently, Marty started his own private practice in 2015 and volunteers as a Chaplain for the Police and Fire departments in his community of Petaluma, CA. In this role, Marty helps first responders process the extreme stress and trauma they go through on a regular basis and also works with community members who have gone through trauma either related to crime or a death in their family.

Marty is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in California (#103247) and Texas (#203784). For therapy services go to www.newroadscounseling.com

Catherine earned her BA in communications and her MA in English and has a background teaching adults. She currently works as a corporate Training Manager. Like Marty, she spent five years aboard the Africa Mercy, a hospital ship in West Africa. In her role, she provided mentorship to over 400 people from over 40 nations.

Together Marty and Catherine enjoy traveling, hiking, gardening and expressing their love for hospitality by cooking for and hosting friends and family at Wildwood Ranch.

    Testimonials

My husband and I had the pleasure of experiencing a retreat with New Roads Retreats. For two people who are in ‘helping professions’, we spend a lot of our time listening to and caring for others. We realized after the first hour or so at the ranch, we don’t often take the time to rest, connect and be listened to by someone else. Both Marty and Catherine are skilled listeners and so easy to be around. They navigate space without crowding or isolating. The property is beautiful, peaceful and has lots of trails and places to explore, meditate and appreciate nature. If you like to work, chop wood or clear brush, you can do that too! We will definitely be back and can’t recommend this experience enough for a refreshing reset.

We recently spent a weekend with Marty and Catherine. It was a time of rest and refreshment for both of us. We are missionaries to SE India and over the last 2 years have spent much time traveling. This is exhausting! Our time rejuvenated us!

The house is spacious and beautifully decorated. It is a property full of God’s peace. Marty and Catherine looked after us well, providing wonderful food and good deep conversations. We had plenty of time to rest and explore the beautiful wooded property and the quaint little town of Coloma. Two days felt like a week of relaxation!

What a gift to us! We look forward to returning!
